New Sitting Room
Down small steps leading from one end of the back extention
is the new house Sittingroom. This is large and open with a beamed
ceiling and stone walls. It has three large sofas grouped together
around a fireplace and a table and chairs for games etc. (See
picture to the left)
There are three windows overlooking the farmyard to the
front and another door leading to the farm yard. Stairs lead
up from here to the two bedrooms and bathroom of this side of
Old Sitting Room
Also accessed from steps leading from the Kitchen is the old
Sittingroom. This has a large fireplace with two sofas (see picture
bottom left). There is also a desk to write post cards etc. Again
this has the original oak beams, stone walls and vast fire place.
This fireplace is the dominant feature of the ground floor room
with its stone lintel, huge carved stone blocks and raised hearth.
Another smaller but equally interesting feature is the original
18th century stone basin set into an arched recess in the wall
by the front door; this is where the family would have washed
and prepared food.
The main front door to the cottages leads directly into
this room so we have also provided a coat rack and somewhere
to deposit boots, toys etc. when you come into the room. Stairs
lead up from here to the three bedrooms and bathroom of this
side of the house.
Games, Books and Music
We have tried to leave an assortment of board games, cards,
books and magazines (some French some English) in the houses
to read and look through. There are also several radios and a
CD/casette player and some old music casettes.
